Things to consider if you are on, or coming off a Weight Loss Medication

About 40% of American adults are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and there has been a significant increase in the share of Americans with this disease over the past two decades. So it is no surprise that many people have shown great interest in, and about, injectable weight loss drugs. I was skeptical at first about the integrity of this method, but after a lot of study, I’ve determined that the risks of obesity far outweigh the known risks of this weight loss method.

There is a lot of information available about weight loss drugs, which work best for weight loss along with all the benefits; potential downsides and side effects. And there are just as many opinions about whether these new drugs are a good or bad thing for weight loss. There have been a lot of “before” and “after” comparisons, and just as much scrutiny towards whether or not celebrities “owe” it to the public to reveal their weight loss methodology.

Don’t forget Fitness!

Fitness is also a key part of learning new habits.  Also, with any weight loss (and especially with injectables) muscle loss can be a concern.  Building muscle while losing weight is long been known as a key to long term wellness.

One thing that has remained consistent in all this is that once the weight loss medication phase has ended, cravings return, old habits reappear, and sometimes with a vengeance. Those people who are the most successful after they discontinue taking their semiglutide, is that the best way to retain that weight loss is to have started healthy eating habits while on the medication. The medication will reduce cravings and send very unpleasant signals to the gut when too much fat or unhealthy food and drink have been consumed, making it easier to back away from the table. Learning to eat in a healthier, calorie and macro sensible way while on the medication is widely known to be the key to sustainable weight management and health.
